Grid-Tools Data Subset™ - create smaller versions of production databases

What is Data Subset?

Data Subset™ is a powerful subsetting component of Grid-Tools' Datamaker™ and Enterprise Data Masking™ solutions. Data Subset™ users are able to define, and extract, the sets of tables they need for use in non-production environments; eliminating the need for full copies of production data. Data Subset™ is also designed to maintain the referential integrity of your data, and can also mask data as it is being extracted from the production database. The result is high-quality, compliant, and manageable test data without the cost of using full copies of production data for your project.

Why Data Subset™?

In most software testing and development projects, copying and masking production data continues to be the method of choice for provisioning test data. However, copying large production databases is time-consuming, and storing them can be very costly. It is also often unnecessary to have such volumes of data in non-production when only specific elements are required for a testing cycle.

Data Subset™, a component of Datamaker™ and Enterprise Data Masking™, is a powerful subsetting tool that allows users to define, create and extract smaller, more manageable sets of tables from their production database for use in testing and development. This affords users greater control over their data in non-production - you choose exactly the right data you need for your software project.

Data Subset™ uses native database utilities to migrate the data, ensuring that all relationships defined by primary foreign keys are maintained. In addition to this, Data Subset™ allows users to add their own relationships and selection criteria, based on scenarios, coverage or application demands. The end product is meaningful, usable test data, with full referential integrity, for use in testing.

As well as provisioning meaningful, manageable sets of test data, Data Subset™ can also ensure that your data is compliant, by masking the data as it is being extracted from production. This allows users to identify the columns that need securing, and which masking functions, including user-defined functions, are most applicable. Data Subset™ will also ensure that where key columns are masked, the function is automatically applied to all related columns, across the data model. With Data Subset™, you get more manageable, more relevant test data whilst maintaining the referential integrity and compliance that you require for a successful, high-quality development project.
